Tuesday 01.15

Charles Hughes (of Blixie)
and friends

9pm - $4

Rock Songs, performances, recordings. Pop, rock, country, soul.

Founding member of Blixie, Biscuit Brothers, Radio Sweetheart. Reckless Drivers and Outside Agitators. One-time member of Aurora Borealis. Associate of The Shakin' 78s and Hot Foot Powder. Explorer of the country-soul paradox. Someone once called it "Buddy Holly if he'd recorded at Stax," another said "these are the records Rockpile would be making if they were still together," and yet another called them "often sad...but always tuneful." Then there was that random audience member in 2003 who audibly asked his companions, the rest of the audience, and assumedly the entire world "who IS this guy?" Nobody knows, but these songs might lead us to some clues.

Wednesday 01.16

Foxy Veronica's Peach Pies
with Bar Code

9pm - $4

(Burlesque/ Garage)

Closed We're sweet, vivacious, and adorably outrageous! A booty here, a bosom there... you might even see our underwear! Bringing caburlesque to the best of both worlds: smitten men and incorrigible girls…

Thursday 01.17

The Facesteak
with The Debut
and The Projection People

9pm - $5

(RockNRoll)

Clyde When something needed to be formed to squeeze the life out of the dimwitted and thier poo-chewing grins, enter The Facesteak. For decades (?) The Facesteak has done battle with all evil that could ever be encountered for example: the ancient minataurs that roamed unchecked through villages pillaging at will in ahh, ahhh was 1892, shit you remember right; also they were the first to declared war on the 1996 Chicago Bulls (muthafriggen tyrants). They contributed to the 'free tibet' campaign by touring the lavish islands of the galapagos before baby boomer fads were ever thought up, or did we? Anyways in the summer of 04 a nameless member unwillingly violated the sanctity of two different marraiges, thus berthing the two headed serpent of music (Judge Reinhold) and the wizard of rock (Burt Reynolds). We sound like The Gods of Mt. Olympus just about to climax, or if awesome was an audible sandwich, but mainly like mythical gods having sex.

Friday 01.18

The Mad Cabaret!

9pm - $6

Rock Hailed by Madison's press corps as "... (a) dazzling, uproarious show, with nonstop shtick and frequent costume changes", The Mad Cabaret returns to the stage for a night of music, dancing, drag, and of course enough bumping and grinding to set the King Club blushing. Pierce Bottoms hosts this evening of the best and wildest revue Madison has to offer. Don't you dare miss it!

Saturday 01.19

The .357 String Band
with Those Poor Bastards,
Mario Matteoli
and High Lonesome

9pm - $5

(PunkGrass/Stomp/Gothic country)

Rock

"The .357 String Band Keep it raw real and dirty on and off stage. And have only begun to show us how much they have to offer." - Hank Williams III

"Those Poor Bastards Are the best Gothic Country I have heard yet to this day. The depressing gloomy vocals coming out of this drifter named Lonesome Wyatt has hints of Marilyn Manson to Nick Cave, Throwrag and maybe even a hint of a demented Adam Ant with a shot of a Pilled Up Johnny Cash... And the Minister is backing up Lonesome Wyatt with a style that is a cross between erie strung out folk music with a creepy blend of The Nightmare Before Christmas!" -Hank Williams III

Sunday 01.20
